I’m Lyndsey Wray, an Independent Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) with over three decades of experience working in and alongside UK SMEs, public sector bodies and, occasionally, larger corporations.

Through Lyndsey Wray Consultancy I help established UK organisations deliver transformation programmes that navigate complex change, redesign internal systems and modernise processes.

I work directly with leadership teams, predominately within women-led SMEs, who are facing non-routine challenges where off-the-shelf solutions won’t do.

My approach combines practical strategic insight with real-world experience: helping clients think clearly, make sound decisions, and implement changes that last.

Alongside this high-level consultancy work, I run UK Bid Writer, a successful specialist business supporting organisations to win public and private sector contracts. My experience through UKBW informs my broader consultancy practice, without defining it, and is available to clients who need expert bid and tender support.

Where I came from; where I’m going

As a contractor for most of my early career, I’ve worked in almost every sector and industry across the UK, supporting both SMEs and large corporations.

🔸I left school aged 16 in 1988 and started my career through a YTS, working for several local small businesses – a print shop, estate agents, solicitors, a timber yard, and others.

🔸Over time, I strove to become a solid interim manager, mostly in marcomms of some type, and often with bid writing and management as a core part of the positions I held, as I progressed to senior management.

🔸In 2004, I moved to the buyer side of procurement, working on service tenders and capital contracts for WRAP, an NGO focused on global environmental action.

🔸In 2006, I started my own micro business, initially offering marketing, communications and tendering services, later refining it to help UK SMEs build their businesses around their work-winning goals by providing expert strategic consultancy through my brand UK Bid Writer.

🔸In 2018, I was named one of the UK SmallBiz100. I also began looking more closely at the potential impacts of AI and other digital tools, taking on additional tech projects and CPD to learn more.

🔸In 2025, in response to the huge opportunities – and very real risks – presented by the rapid changes in our working world, I broadened my strategic services through Lyndsey Wray Consultancy, with the clear aim of supporting specifically women-led SMEs to modernise and futureproof their businesses.

🔸To further develop my understanding of how AI and other digital tools can be used successfully as part of a broader transformation strategy development programme, I completed London Business School’s ‘Business of AI: Strategies for Leaders’ in April 2025. I also became an Innovate UK Talent and Skills Connect partner.

🥇Underpinning and formalising my experience in helping SMEs, I have achieved the Chartered Management Consultant award, the highest status that can be awarded in the management consulting profession.
